Cell Phones Ripe Grounds for Patent Disputes
It seems life is hard right now for cell phone carriers. First a district court banned the importation of cell phones containing Qualcom chips. Now a court in Texas is hearing a case relating to the system by which cell phones place 911 calls. The major cell phone carriers are weighing in on both cases to try and minimize the effect that decisions in either case may have on their ability to provide service to their customers. It is just another example of how patent fights between third parties can have a significant effect on your business.
