More on Vouchers
Most of the people I have spoken with about vouchers who oppose the idea seem to base their objections on emotion. How can you attack our public schools? I am not and I do not think that most who are in favor of vouchers are anti-public schools. I have 5 children in public schools and they are doing great. I am simply in favor of parents having the ability to find a solution that works best for their children, because there are some parents who are not as fortunate. Most parents will keep their children in public schools. For some, though another alternative is best.
My doctor tells me I need to lose weight - she is right (my wife agrees). What if the only option I had was to run? A lot of people like to run. I have neighbors who run 10 miles a day. I hate running. It hurts my knees (2 knee surgeries), I get headaches, and I just don't like it. If that was the only option I could afford - I will die early - overweight. Fortunately I can swim and I can bike - both of which I like to do. I can reach the goal everyone has form me - but in a way that works for me. It is highly unlikely to happen any other way.
There are children failing in our public school system for similar reasons. Some just learn differently and do not follow the curriculum. Others do not like the environment or have other issues which interfere with their success. I am not concerned about how they get to be well educated adults - the ones with good jobs who pay taxes and help build our economy. I just want them to get there. Vouchers provide parents the opportunity to find what works best for their children. As long as we have a highly educated, capable work force - who cares if we all got their by running.
One question that troubles me is why do we give greater options to those who are on government welfare than our own children. People on welfare can spend their benefits (our tax dollars) in any grocery store in town. Don't our children deserve as much.
I would strongly recommend anyone who is not in favor or vouchers to watch some of these videos.

Rand,
Great point. I thought everyone who favored vouchers was evil, of Satan, un-American, selfish, unfair and simply profiteering. At least, that's what I've been hearing from the folks on the other side. I'm glad to hear someone else make the case that we, voucher supporters, do actually care about kids, want the best for public schools and are seeking win-win.
