The Best of the Competitive Insight - Day of Trouble
Every week, The Competitive Insight lists the Utah patents and trademarks pursued by Utah businesses and individuals. These filings are insight into the competitive landscape here in Utah. They allow you to see what people are doing well, and what people are doing poorly. Perhaps it will even give insight into an underserved niche. I'll be giving recognition to the most interesting ones that come across my desk. Here's my favorites from this week.
Patent of the Week
There's something satisfying about communicating a *BOOM*. The interesting piece here is that it is a safer, smarter communication. It wakes up on an activation call and charges a detonator. With the receipt of a second call, it makes sure the charge is ready and that the second call is verified as to its authenticity. Then, BOOM! Which is generally followed by an obligatory cackle.
Trademark of the Week
I had to laugh when I saw this trademark. For those of you that do not recognize Remote MDx, they operate in the offender tracking market. That's right, if you're on parole, you need a PAL - trackerPAL. I suppose there's something about a big brother monitoring system being called a "PAL" that sets off my sense of humor.
On the marketing side, I think its brilliant. Law enforcement now can send someone out with a PAL. This is much better than a stool pidgeon, tattle-tale or monkey-on-your-back.
Bonus Trademark of the Week
They claim that they started using this new script in 2000. While 7 years isn't comparable to the near 100 years we saw from BYU earlier, it is still awhile. It just goes to show that its still not too late! You can start protecting yourself today. Follow this Utah Success Story and evaluate your position and competitive advantages today.
