Change We Can Believe In
Well, we are three days into the Obama administration and it appears that Washington really has not changed. Earlier today Timothy Geithner was approved to be the new Treasury Secretary. Yes the man who calls not paying $34,000 in self-employment taxes a "careless mistake" is now going to be over the Internal Revenue Service. In fact, Secretary Geithner was audited for his 2003 and 2004 tax returns. The error was brought to his attention, but he still failed to pay the taxes for 2001 and 2002 for which he was not audited. He suddenly paid up in November. Does the word Hypocrite come to mind.
While Secretary Geithner may be a financial whiz, the excuse that not paying your taxes is a careless mistake is - well - inadequate. The American people deserve better.
It is pretty clear that the American people want change. Jason Alba at JibberJobber wrote a great post about change - accepting responsibility for our own actions. Equally important is that the American people insist that our politicians start being held responsible. We are sick of congressmen who accept bribes, do not pay taxes on foreign investments, or send dirty text messages to teenagers.
It does not matter if they are Republicans, Democrats or Independents. We should demand that our leaders live up to the same standards that the rest of us are expected to live by.

Great post Rand. What bothers me even more is how the media turns a blind eye to half of this stuff because it's Obama.
